Garlic flatbread is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed on its own or as a side to various meals. Here’s a simple recipe to make garlic flatbread at home:

Ingredients:

  • For the Dough:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
    • 3/4 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • For the Garlic Butter:
    • 4 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
    • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
    • Salt to taste

Instructions:

Making the Dough:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, mix the warm water and sugar. Add the yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
  4. Let the Dough Rise:
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Preparing the Garlic Butter:

  1. Melt the Butter:
    • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cooking the Flatbread:

  1. Preheat the Pan:
    • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide and Roll Out the Dough:
    • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a round or oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Cook the Flatbread:
    • Place the flatbread on the hot skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. You may see bubbles forming on the surface, which is normal.
  4. Brush with Garlic Butter:
    • Remove the flatbread from the skillet and immediately brush with the garlic butter. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and a pinch of salt if desired.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve the garlic flatbread warm as a side dish, with dips, or as a base for sandwiches.
